Palm set to offer paid apps for webOS

Palm is allegedly ready to launch its paid app service for webOS devices, a source has told PreCentral. Content will linked with the user's Palm Profile, enabling deleted apps to be re-downloaded without requiring a second purchase. After purchasing a new Pre or Pixi, all of the apps can be transferred to the new device.

The company recently released webOS 1.2, with improvements to the e-mail filter options, copy-and-paste, dialing from the calendar, and LinkedIn contact syncing. The update did not reestablish iTunes sync, following a conflict with Apple that was even brought to the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF). It remains unknown if Palm will try to bring back the feature with future updates.

The paid app service is said to be ready on Friday, October 2nd. Initial availability will be limited to US customers, with the Canadian market to follow in the near future.
